A privacy screen that doesn't make much private Aug 04, 2009
By Joshua P I spend most of my day on my laptop, and beyond personal information I am frequently looking at sensitive, confidential information for work. I hoped that this product would limit who could see the contents of my screen.
From my limited use of this product, it seems that the filter cover does not effectively limit the visibility of the screen. I would estimate that the privacy effect started around 30 degrees from the center of the screen and peaked around 60 degrees from the center of the screen. Unfortunately, at its darkest most of the screen contents were quite clear.
I plan on trying the 3m screen next.
Note: I didn't not remove the plastic protective cover in my testing, because I wanted to return the product if it didn't work.
UPDATE:
I found the 3M screen marginally better, but both the 3M filters and the Elago filter are badly designed. My major gripe, which is more specific to the Elago filter because it is made for the Macbook Pro, is that the filter only covers the LCD portion of the glass screen. Because there is no bezel for the filter to sit on, one must tack the screen on the screen with tape. Cutting the filter to fit on the screen better isn't asking too much.

Feel like I'm looking through a prism Dec 28, 2009

Unlike the previous reviewer, I removed the plastic film from the screen and even attached the plastic tabs. While the viewing angles on both sides are reduced, I do feel eye strain because the colors seem to separate at each pixel. I've used the 3M screen for years, and I thought a less expensive product might do the same job. I guess not.
