Durable, well designed, and has its own accessories Oct 23, 2009

Imagine if you will a completely sealed plastic case surrounded by a type of silicon rubber, with covered port accessibility, for headphones and charging cable/dock site, that also comes with it's own accessories, purchased separately. Well, that's the Otterbox. I purchased the protector/armor from the Otterbox website, and purchased with it the armband for working out and the belt clip, which the iPod slides into. The Otterbox Defender holds the iPod, and the accessories support the iPod within its defended shell so there's no need to take the iPod out of the Defender just to put it in your jogging arm band. In fact, the Otterbox tag line is, "Never Out Of Its Element."
The construction of everything seems solid, and functional. The headphones port is a perfect size for my Shure e4c headphone jack, which is a slightly larger plug than many normal headphones. I don't have any cradles or docks so I'm not sure how that function works over all. I haven't dropped the iPod since having the Otterbox on it, though I have dropped it about 4 times w/o the Defender wrapped around it. I extrapolate this is because I now have something to hold on to, though it's not bulky. It appears to be moisture proof, not dunk proof per say, but a quick splash might not hurt the iPod within it's safe environment. I refuse to test the Otterbox in this regard however.
The click wheel is slightly less easy to rotate, but everything works fine through the thin plastic membrane built into the Defender. The screen is protected by the same thin transparent plastic, though I'm going to try and see if I can't clean it a little from both sides, since it's not 100% transparent and makes the screen very slightly cloudy.
All in all, no real complaints. Super glad I purchased this over some of the other cases out there.

Great case for the 3G Nano Jul 24, 2008

After spending a good chunk of money on an ipod, I wanted to make sure it was protected. I wanted something that would give great protection without turning the sleek device into a bulky one. The first case I tried was one of the Belkin Remix Metal case. It seemed fine at first, but I got annoyed by how deep the click-wheel access was. It made it really hard to control with my thumb. I returned that and ordered RhinoSkin's new case for the nano. It also seemed fine at first, but then I realized that the ipod was secured by the edges in the case, and there was a small space between the ipod and the front of the case. This meant that there was nothing to keep the lint and dirt from my pocket from getting between the screen and the case. If it wasn't for this problem this would have been my dream case, as it was very slim and felt well made.
Next I came across this case. While it makes no real effort to keep the extra slim profile of the nano, it does do a great job of keeping junk from getting into the case. It also makes the nano much easier to hold. The more I use this case the more I like it. I did get a SwitchEasy White Biscuit just to give a slim case one more try. It is by far the best slim plastic case I have found, and I will keep it for possible future use. However, in the end I still like the Defender case better.
