VYP-BLK-XL2: Booq Vyper XL2 (17" MacBook Pro)

Perfectly fitted for the 17-inch MacBook Pro, Vyper XL2 is a compact and durable sleeve with a slick, rugged exterior and a non-scratch interior designed to protect your laptop against scratches and excessive wear. Although Vyper does not have a handle, it can be used on its own, but it is designed to be used first and foremost as additional protection inside another bag, like our Boa, BP3, or Python backpacks. We sandwiched durable, semi-rigid high density foam between a layer of 1682D cross-weave ballistic nylon on the exterior and a super non-scratch lining on the interior - an effective blend. Vyper has to be the first truly cool laptop sleeve, and the Vyper XL2 is a must-have for every 17-inch MacBook user!

2Ya it looks good, but will it protect?  Feb 17, 2007
By Mr. Underground
I was looking for a sleeve-like option for MBP, but didn't find a lot of options in the 17" category. So far the Booq Vyper XL2 is pretty good. It offers a rigid outside that looks thicker than it really is. There is also not much extra padding along the corners; where you need the most protection. The zippers are also on the weak-side, although I have had no trouble with them so far. All-in-all, I don't think I would have purchased this sleeve if I saw it in the store. Might rather have gone with Timbuk2 padded Sleeve for its added protection.

1Nice design spoiled by poor zippers and deplorable customer service.  Dec 13, 2006
By Scott A. Story
I purchase the Booq Vyper XL2 along with a Python XL backpack. After doing a lot of research I found this to be the best solution (I have since purchase and love the Brenthaven Pro 15/17 backpack). On the very first day of use, the zippers jammed. I tried unjamming them only to have half the zipper pull break off, making the sleeve usable with only one zipper. Later that day, the other zipper jammed and broke off. I was sure this was a manufacturing defect and contacted the company. Booq required that I photograph the broken zippers and send to them in a specific size and format. They would then review the pictures and make a decision on whether to send out a new sleeve. Well, this was a little unorthodox to say the least, but I did what they asked (I wondered why I couldn't just send them the defective sleeve and have them send me a new one after they receive it.) After jumping through quite a few hoops, I finally convinced them that I actually did purchase this, and that it was actually broken. It took a couple weeks to get the replacement. Upon arrival, I packed it up with the Booq Python XL backpack and sold it. The design is nice enough, but it is truly spoiled by zippers that just don't work. Add that to their deplorable customer service and it was definitely not worth the premium price they're asking. I challenge companies that offer so-called "lifetime warranties" to actually stand behind their products (without question)! There seems to be precious-few out there.

5Just what I wanted  Mar 20, 2011

This is the best case for full protection of you Mac book pro. this is not the neoprene soft cover it is a stiff sided case that allows you to put your Mac in any briefcase.

5Works well. Great protection  Jul 01, 2010

As another reviewer stated, I was wary of this sleeve due to some poor reviews of the zippers. I went ahead with my purchase anyway and have been very happy with the product. The zippers are high quality and move smoothly. The sleeve also has a little cloth lip on the inside of the zipper that prevents it from making contact with the laptop. I had thought about saving a little money and just getting a neoprene sleeve, but I wanted something with a bit more protection for my several thousand dollar laptop. The Booq Vyper XL2 gives me that.

The only thing I wish it had was a zipper pocket or something else on the outside to hold memory cards/sticks and possibly the power cord. I realize that most people will be using this inside of a computer bag, so this may not be a major issue. I use mine with a Targus bag and it works great!

4Good Product, I feel comfortable with my MBP in ths  Sep 13, 2009
By P. Rodriguez "Paul"
I was very hesitant about ordering this as the other two reviews gave low scores and mentioned problems with the Zippers. My unibody as all Macs are very expensive and they were talking about the padding not being very thick, and I agree on that, but what I did to get around this, as I like the hard sleeve that this provides, was order a Radtech sleeve.
With both of them together I feel absolutely comfortable and feel my MBP is very protected as well as that it has enough padding now.
On the issue of the Zippers; I have not had any issues with them them seem pretty sturdy, and they zip right up.
Another concern I had was about Zippers rubbing on my MBP as I, like most MAC owners do, spent a lot of money for my notebook, The vyper by itself does have a little interior lip around where the zippers go; Without the Radtech sleeve I would not feel as comfortable putting my MBP inside. I think it would be OK, but I just feel better proected with the two sleeves working together.
Until Axio makes a 17"unibody sleeve, I will use this current setup to preserve my MAC when traveling.

Four Stars, as I would like to see better padding with out use of the Radtech sleeve, but as I posted the two working together are fantastic.
